MARK TWAIN
Huck Finn

Huckleberry Finn was only 14 years old, but beveryone in the town of St. Petersburg knew who he was. There were two reasons for this. First, Huck- for Huckleberry-lived alone. All the boys adried him because he was free. He went everywhere he wanted and he didn't need to ask anyone. He went hunting and fishing whenever he wanted. He didn't need to go to school or do chores like they did. The second reason is that when Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher got lost in a cave, Huck found them and helped them get out. That made him the hero of the town.
Widow Douglas was worried about Huck and wanted to help him. She thought somebody should look after him. She talked about it with Judge Thatcher, and
they decided that Huck should go and live with her.
Soon after, Widow Douglas's sister came to live with them as well, along with her slave, Jim.
Huck and Jim became good friends, and they often sat and talked about many things. "I like Widow Douglas but she has too many rules," Huck told Jim.
"For her there's only one right way to do everything.
'Don't eat with your fingers' she says. But eating with a knife and fork is annoying. I just want to catch a fish and eat it how I like. I want to be free again."
