Texto en pasado simple, pasado perfecto y pasado continuo
Hoy tenemos un nuevo texto en inglés con tiempos pasados.
Este texto usa varios tiempos pasados: principalmente el pasado simple, pasado continuo y pasado perfecto.
Te recuerdo que tenemos unos 20 tiempos verbales en inglés. Pero que las conjugaciones son tan sencillas que no hace falta esforzarte mucho para memorizarlos.
Primero, hay que hablar un poco del pasado perfecto…
Cómo usar el pasado perfecto en inglés
Creo que no he hablado mucho del pasado perfecto aquí, porque en inglés americano no lo usamos demasiado. Se trata de un tiempo verbal que se usa como el pluscuamperfecto en español.
Si todavía tienes presente la gramática española, sabes qué es el pluscuamperfecto… Se usa para hablar de un momento en el pasado antes de otro momento en el pasado.
El pasado perfecto se forma con el verbo auxiliar had y el participio pasado.
Por ejemplo:
When we arrived at the airport, the plane had already taken off.
La primera parte de la frase es pasado simple, y la segunda es pasado perfecto. Se trata de algo que pasó antes de que llegáramos al aeropuerto. Por supuesto, el phrasal verb take off es despegar (entre otras cosas).
Otro ejemplo:
She had already woken up by the time I left.
Traducción al español: ella ya se había despertado cuando yo me fui.

El texto también usa el pasado simple, que se usa para estados en el pasado o acciones puntuales y el pasado continuo, que se usa para acciones más largas en el pasado.

Susan had a party last week.
She had invited all her friends to her house. She had invited her friends from work, her friends from university, and her friends from her neighborhood. The guests started arriving at around 7 o’clock for dinner.
Susan’s best friend, Cindy, was there, wearing a red dress. And Susan’s boyfriend, Tom, was wearing a blue suit and looked very handsome.
Cindy’s boyfriend wasn’t there, because he was travelling for business. He was negotiating a big contract in Sao Paolo that day. He had left the day before, and wouldn’t be back for two more days.
Susan had made lasagna, which was very good. She had made enough lasagna for 30 people! She had also made salad and stuffed eggplant. Everything was delicious.

Her friends brought wine to the party. Everybody talked and drank wine and had a good time. While they were eating, they talked about their lives and about the political situation in their country (which was terrible, like everywhere else).
Susan hadn’t made anything for dessert, so they ate chocolate ice cream, which was delicious.
Around 11 o’clock everyone left, except Cindy, who stayed to help Susan clean up.
Some people caught taxis to go home, and some people took the subway. Other people walked.
After Susan and Cindy had finished cleaning up, they sat on the sofa and had another glass of wine and relaxed. It had been a good night, and they were both very tired.
