PART I, PRESENT TIME
Right now, Toshi is sitting at his desk. He is studying his grammar book. His roommate, Oscar, is sitting at his desk, but he is isn't studying He is staring out the window. Toshi wants to know what Oscar is looking at.
TOSHI: Oscar, what are you looking at?
OSCAR: I am watching the bicyclists. They are very skillful. I don't know how to ride a bike, so I admire anyone who can. Come over to the window. Look at that guy in the blue shirt. He is steering his bike with one hand while he is drinking a soda with the other. At the same time, he is weaving in and out of the heavy street traffic. He seems fearless.
TOSHI: Riding a bike isn't as hard as it looks. I'll teach you to ride a bicycle if you'd like.
OSCAR: Really? Great!
TOSHI: How come you don't know how to ride a bike?
OSCAR: I never had a bike when I was a kid. My family was too poor. Once I tried to learn on the bike of one of my friends, but the other kids all laughed at me. I never tried again because I was too embarrassed. But I'd really like to learn now! When can we start?
PART II: PAST TIME
Yesterday, Toshi was sitting at his desk and studyng his grammar book. His roommate, Oscar was sitting, at his desk, but he wasn't studying. He was staring out the window. He was watching bicyclists on the street below.
Toshi walked over to the window. Oscar pointed out one bicyclist in particular. This bicyclist was steering with one hand while he was drinking a soda with the other. At the same time, he was weaving in and out of the heavy traffic. To Oscar, the bicyclist seemed fearless. Oscar never learned how to ride a bike when he was a child, so Toshi offered to teach him. Oscar accepted gladly.
Presente Simple.
El presente simple se usa para hablar de hábitos o hechos. Su estructura es la siguiente:
- Sujeto + verbo en presente + complemento.
- Sujeto + don't/doesn't + verbo en forma simple + complemento.
- Verbo aux + sujeto + verbo en forma simple + complemento.
Cuando el sujeto de la oración esta en tercera persona se debe agregar una "s" o "es" al final del verbo.
Presente Continuo.
El presente continuo se usa para hablar de acciones que estan ocurriendo en el momento, se forma con el verbo to be y la terminación 'ing'
Su estructura es:
- Sujeto + verbo to be + verbo 'ing' + complento.
- Sujeto + verbo to be + not + verbo 'ing' + complemento.
- Verbo to be + sujeto + verbo 'ing' + complemento + ?
Pasado Simple.
Las oraciones en pasado simple se usan para hablar de acciones terminadas en el pasado y se pueden formar con verbos regulares e irregulares.
- Los verbos irregulares no siguen un formato y su pronunciación y escritura suelen cambiar de su forma básica.
- Los verbos regulares en inglés se forman utilizando el verbo y agregándole "ed" al final.
Su estructura es la siguiente:
- Sujeto + verbo en pasado + complemento.
- Sujeto + didn't + verbo en forma simple + complemento
- Did + sujeto + verbo en forma simple + complemento + ?
Pasado Continuo.
Se usa para hablar de acciones que estaban ocurriendo en el pasado pero fueron interrumpidas por otra.
Su estructura es:
- Sujeto + verbo to be en pasado + verbo 'ing' + complemento
- Sujeto + verbo to be en pasado + not + verbo 'ing' + complemento
- Verbo to be en pasado + sujeto + vebo 'ing' + complento + ?
