It is a subspecies of the eastern gorilla, it is mainly herbivorous. Its diet consists of leaves, stems and flowers, although larvae and ants sometimes appear. Unlike other primates, it usually lives on the ground instead of in trees, although it sometimes climbs them to get fruit.
