Marilyn Monroe was born on June 1st, 1926, in Los Angeles, California. Her birth name was Norma Jeane Mortenson. She spent much of her childhood in foster homes and orphanages. In 1942, at the age of 16, she got married to James Dougherty. However, their marriage ended in 1946 when Marilyn began her modeling career. She dyed her hair blonde and changed her name to Marilyn Monroe.
